![]() What confuses me is why do different spectral renderers give different results in the way the renderer scenes look ? if one would do an experiment with the same scene, same camera position same lighting settings, materials rendered in 4 different spectral engines it should look the same only with different speed no ? But it doesn’t work like that does it ? why ?īecause it needs a good programmer with high math levels and high comprension of what is going on. Would it be correct to assume that you value your renderer choice based on speed and quality alone ? Dispite the difference in technical approach to rendering. And this might be my taste, but I urge you to search around, use Google’s image search, set it for 2mpix and bigger, check quality - imo Vray and Octane stand out pretty well from the rest. If I understand it right, Vray and Octane is pretty far apart, technically, but imo, when comparing renders, these to stand out from anything else. Cycles is the only unbiased without spectral sampling based on my knowledge.Ģ.I don’t agree that “Unbiased” is a buzzword - it has clear workflow advantages provided sufficiently powerful hardware used. ![]() Do not buy renderer only for buzzword “Unbiased”.Īgreed slow, very accurate provided enough time to clear out.ġ.Agreed but most popular “Unbiased” renderers nowadays use spectral sampling ( Octane, Indigo, Maxwell, Fryrender, Luxrender ) some special cases Vray-biased,VrayRT-unbiased, Nvidias Mentalray-biased, iRay-unbiased. You need to careful check all variants, render can be unbiased but have no physical correct model, or have spectral sampling, full proper motion blur but lack unbiasedness (some fancy adaptive noise filter for example). In reality, that renderers use couple of features, and most successive have all-on-one. ![]() Last decade there are many commercial renderers whose marketing team decide to “push” word “unbiased”. Spectral sampling mean shaders take care of actual wave length when choose next direction after bounces. Physically correct - mean artist describe scene with parameters that more feasible from phisycal point of view, like Phong specular power VS real surface roughness. Unbiased - mean used Monte Carlo -like integrator and in every sample it get proper mean value, it is pure mathematic term, for mortals it mean like "image steady, smooth converging to ideal image with time, no fast bursts or periods of stalls, every next pass (sample) increase quality. Unbiased, physically correct, spectral, proper motion blur - all 4 are orthogonal, independent features. ![]()
